It is always exciting to stumble across native wildlife roaming around in the wild, in a way that a trip to the zoo just can’t match. That is the great thing about this great attraction right on The Great Ocean Road: Tower Hill, nestled in a dormant volcano on the south-west coast of Victoria, 14km west of Warrnambool.

Part of the state park has been dedicated to an open wildlife reserve and is haven for emus, koalas, lizards, kangaroos, possums, black swans and lots of different bird life. The lush, green reserve was much used for grazing livestock and was completely denuded, but has slowly been returned to its natural state.
We took a quick drive through, stopping to say hello to some emus roaming around the park. The emus are used to people gawking at them, so no need to have a fit when one looks at you. It was easy to spot a lazy koala chilling out in a gum tree. Driving out we saw lots of kangaroos hanging about.
