More Asian travellers heading to Queensland

Brisbane Airport recorded good international growth in April with visitor numbers from Asian markets increasing 15.4 per cent (or an additional 6,400 passengers) overall year-on-year.

China was the standout with 54.2 per cent growth (or an additional 5,000 passengers), followed closely by Taiwan at 35.2 per cent (or an additional 1,300 passengers), and India with a 27.1 per cent (or an additional 1,300 passengers) increase compared to last April.

There was also a significant increase in arrivals and departures on Singapore-Brisbane services (21.8 per cent or an additional 9,700 passengers) and a positive change in traffic on three other top city pairs (Auckland, Dubai and Hong Kong).

Seat capacity to and from international destinations increased by 3.5 per cent on last year due to some airlines scheduling larger aircraft onto their Brisbane routes.

Domestically, approximately 34,000 additional passengers travelled to and through Brisbane Airport in April compared to last year, with growth on intrastate routes again strong at 13 per cent year-on-year.

An additional 77,000 domestic seats were also on offer throughout April, a 4.6 per cent increase on last year.
