Update: Labor State Member of Parliament for Pumicestone, Carryn Sullivan, has rejected claims she didn't show up to a meeting with residence concerned about a bus stop.
"I didn't make that particular time that I told her, but I came back later obviously because I was held up," Ms Sullivan said.
"She wasn't home, I left a note for her, I went and took photos," Ms Sullivan continued.
Ms Sullivan said she has passed the information onto the Minister and is waiting on a reply.
Letter by concerned resident:
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter to inform you of a safety issue that concerns a bus stop, young children in a Family Day Care and young school age children crossing a major road.
My name is Margaret Mckeand, my son Kevin Mckeand attends a family day care at 156 Bellmere Road, Bellmere, 5 days a week as I work full time for Woolworths Caboolture South.
A Trans link Bus stop was install at this address approx 4 years ago. In the last 2 years since the new estate across the road has populated the amount of traffic and buses has increase a lot.
On a Wednesday afternoon approx 2 months ago, I was waiting on Bellmere Road near her driveway for Doreen to get home from the school run so I could get Kevin. At 3.3.0pm a Translink bus and a Caboolture Bus Line bus were following each other very closely, they indicated to pull into the bus stop at 156 Bellmere Road and narrowly missed side swipping my car, they stop and block of her driveway. Doreen came down Bellmere Road from the child care Centre end and had to stop in the middle due to the fact that she could not get in her driveway because the busses had blocked it. I saw a car narrowly miss her back end of the car were my son sit because of this situation. I was so frightened that this could turn into a serious accident that I came home and rang the Caboolture Bus Line and Translink to tell what had happen. I spoke to Dorreen about it and she said it wasn't the first time they had blocked the driveway and that she has been nearly in an accident several times. The buses block the driveway morning and afternoon Monday to Friday. I do not want a phone call from Doreen to tell me that my son is hurt because of the situation. Since this incident I have seen the buses come so close to me that they nearly hit me, I have seen them block the driveway regularly and other mother of children in Doreen's care have experienced the same things.
I am pleading with you and Translink to put our young children and the young children that cross that busy road FIRST. This bus stop should not have been put there with out contacting the residents affected by it. Please can it be moved to the other side of the road or moved up further for the safety of all our children.
I thank you for your time in reading this letter and I really hope you can put a lot of mums and dads mines at rest and put the children safety FIRST. If you would like to talk about this subject or want more information please do not hesitate to ring me on 0754970664 or 0428772172. I would like to be inform on your decision.
Regards
Margaret Mckeand
