VibeBlog: Golden Horse Chinese Restaurant - Morayfield

A lack of parking, a crowd of angry customers, a long wait, staff running left - right and centre with the result being tasteless food. This made up our experience of the recently relocated Golden Horse Chinese restaurant on Morayfield road.

Armed with a mixed review from people on Facebook and the taste already in my mouth of dripping, juicy, tantalising honey chicken we headed for the Golden Horse.

As the Golden Horse came into view, so to did the packed car park which spilled onto the main road and the nearby back street. This filled us with the false expectation that we were about to experience a meal to remember.

On entering the front doors, we were met with a large number of customers standing in anticipation of their tasty take away meals. Surprisingly, with the car park so packed, the diner part of the restaurant looked quiet.

Yes, I ordered honey chicken and we found the menu lacked vegetarian options. The order was finalised with the friendly staff and with the knowledge that it would be ready in no more than 30 minutes. We headed to the nearby BP service station to get a couple of cold drinks.

Taking our time getting the drinks and making our way back to the Golden Horse we took just over 30 minutes. The staff appeared flustered, and the people still waiting for their takeaway orders now looked rather agitated. On inquiry of where our order was we were told another 10 to 15 minutes.

To fill in the time and our grumbling stomachs we went to McDonalds, got a couple of cheeseburgers (one without meat) and headed back. The order still wasn't ready. While waiting in the restaurant, the staff buzzed around like un-organised  flies randomly taking orders and checking on inquiries from others wondering where their dinners had got to.

A lot of this inefficiency would be resolved by getting a cheap mobile phone and SMSing customers as the orders are ready to dispatch.

Finally with our order we bolted home to devour the feast in our possession. The vegetables looked and tasted great. The rice was gluggy and fell out of the dish in one piece. The honey chicken broke my heart sporting no taste of honey, was over salty and rather dry.

We had a banquet at the crazy horse 3 weeks ago and the food was perfectly cooked and the batter on the sweet and sour was so freshly cooked it was crispy and golden, melted in your mouth and we are looking forward to going back on Friday evening for dinner , advisable to book a table or ring your order through for take away.
