Cars were submerged as heavy rains turned Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley streets into rushing flood ways late yesturday. (See video at the bottom of this story)
More heavy rain is expected to approach this morning, dumping up to 100mm of rain on parts of Brisbane after yesterday evening's storm caused havoc in inner suburbs and knocked out power lines in the Lockyer Valley.
More than 50 cars were flooded in inner-suburban Brisbane last night as the deluge triggered flash flooding with at least eight roads either closed or affected.
Drivers came back to their cars parked along Constance St in Fortitude Valley to find water up to the windows.
The State Emergency Service received a number of calls for assistance for leaky roofs and sandbagging.
Energex said the afternoon storm had also knocked out power to more than 1300 southeast Queensland homes and businesses.
The worst-affected areas were the Brisbane Valley, Lockyer Valley and a few southern Brisbane suburbs.
Nearly 1200 lightning strikes were recorded on Energex's network in the afternoon and were also responsible for bringing power lines down near Esk.
The Gold and Sunshine coasts can also expect rain today with associated storms and localised thunder.
