Large parts of Brisbane's Energex power grid is being shut down because of rising waters.
Energex has substations in buildings and other infrastructures along the Brisbane river. These need to be isolated from the high voltage network before a dangerous life threatening situation occurs.
Power outages are not just restricted to Brisbane, many places in Queensland effected by flooding have no use of electricity.

This will effect the obvious things like no lights to see with, can't boil the kettle and no watching TV or using the computer.
But what about the things you just don't think about, like not being able to have a hot shower or even water if it is pump driven. Most water is pump driven by Council pumps, although hopefully they will keep operating by backup generators.
